South Carolina Department of Education Office of Early Learning and Literacy College and Career Ready Division Survey: Dear Parents and Childcare Providers, Parents and caretakers of young children and the professionals who work with families are experts on the supports and resources available in communities around South Carolina. It is our job as state leaders to listen to you all. The “Transitions from Pre-K to 5K” survey is from the interagency Palmetto Pre-K Transitions Workgroup, and we aim to learn more about what's available around our state to support families in the transition into 5-year-old Kindergarten. We would be incredibly grateful if you would share your thoughts. Please take a moment to complete a very brief survey (about 5 minutes) found here: https://scfirststeps.surveymonkey.com/r/JMYM2J9. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Rachal Hatton-Moore, Two-Generation Coordinator, at rhatton@scfirststeps.org.

ESSER III Community Survey The School District of Newberry County needs input on the spending of the ARP - ESSER III allocation. The SDNC received over $15.2 million to address learning loss and academic needs related to the Covid19 pandemic. Funds cannot be used for bonuses. On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law. The US Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). This legislation will award these grants to state educational agencies (SEAs) for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs) with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation. Parents, Would you like the capability to manage screen time and filter websites on your child's personal device? Free Bark Jr - Bark for Schools Bark Jr allows parents to manage screen time, filter which websites their kids can visit, and keep up with kids by using location check-in. It's just another way that Bark is closing the gap in online safety for kids while allowing them the space they need to develop into good digital citizens.

Well Visit and Vaccine Reminders to School Aged Children Dreaming of a return to in-person schooling for your children or a summer family vacation? Things are looking better for 2021. The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is encouraging and will save lives. Vaccination has never been more important to protect our families and communities. Now is the time to get your children caught up on routine immunizations they may have missed during the pandemic or are due for this year. It’s time to call your pediatrician or family doctor’s office to schedule a yearly checkup for your child. In 2020, it was “stay home to stay safe”. In 2021, clinics are safe, sanitized and socially distant. Medical offices have taken protective measures to make sure that visits can happen safely, including: Scheduling sick visits and well-child visits during different times of the day Asking patients to remain outside until it’s time for their appointment to reduce the number of people in waiting rooms Offering sick visits and well-child visits in different locations A safer return to school means vaccinating your child/children this spring with all recommended vaccines. Preteens especially need to receive their recommended vaccines. Children ages 9-12 are due for four vaccines to protect against diphtheria, HPV-related cancers, meningitis, tetanus, and whooping cough. Call to schedule a well child appointment today. For more information, visit: https://scdhec.gov/health/child-teen-health/early-childhood-health/how-often-should-my-child-get-routine-checkup How Often Should My Child Get a Routine Checkup? | SCDHEC All children need to have regular well child check-ups. Good health care helps create a good foundation for growth and development. Regardless of age, well child check-ups are important for all infants, children and adolescents. scdhec.gov
